Massage – The Healing Power of Touch
February is all about romance . . . but it’s also about emotional and physical health! What’s one thing that’s great for all three of these things? Massage therapy! Here are just a few of the benefits that massage therapy provides:
Benefits of Massage
Stress Relief – One of the greatest benefits of massage is its ability to relieve stress. Whether your stress is caused by elements at work or in the home, massage is a great release. Studies have even shown that just one massage session helps lower your heart rate significantly.
Relaxation – Another benefit that goes hand-in-hand with stress relief is relaxation. Massage is a great form of relaxation because it gives you the opportunity to disconnect from the world for a little while. Not only that, but it helps lower your levels of cortisol (aka “stress hormones”).
Improved Posture – Many of us have a bad habit of hunching over our desks at work; this makes our neck and back muscles work harder which, in turn, causes pain. Massage therapy helps combat this pain and fix our posture by helping relax the muscles in our neck and back.
Deeper Breathing – Snowballing off the benefits of relaxation . . . massage also helps us breathe deeply by helping our bodies relax. Basically, by helping us relax, massage helps relieve respiratory issues caused by stress and, in turn, helps us breathe more deeply.
AromaTouch Technique
One interesting massage technique is AromaTouch. Developed by David K. Hill, the AromaTouch Massage Technique is all about maximizing the benefits of essential oils while utilizing the healing power of touch. Like other types of massage, AromaTouch helps reduce physical and emotional stress. The difference, however, is in the oils.
The AromaTouch Technique utilizes oils that were specially chosen by doTERRA for their individual and combined aromatic properties. These oils, which include Lavender and Peppermint along with several others, were chosen for their unique ability to support people’s overall well-being. Depending on the individual, the person implementing the AromaTouch Technique will use more calming or energizing oils.
